Generally, you can use any computer in the library. The computers in the area surrounding the reference desk are primarily intended for research, so patrons are encouraged to use the computer lab on the 1st floor of the library for word processing, e-mail, and other uses, especially when the library is busy. Some computers with special software are reserved for students in certain chemistry classes at particular times. This section of computers is indicated with a sign. These computers can be used by other patrons, but they must give up the computer if a chemistry student needs to use it.
