As of August 2016, Kent State users do not need to download and use the VPN in order to access the library's databases or resources. The VPN has been replaced by KSU Proxy. Now when you try to access one of the library's databases or content, you will be prompted to login to KSU Proxy with your Flashline username and password. You do not need to download or install any special software in order to use the proxy. More information about the proxy can be found on the Connect from Off-Campus page.
Previously, if you wanted to search for or download articles from any of Kent State's databases while not on campus, you needed to install and connect to the Kent State Cisco VPN. For those individuals who still need to use the VPN:
- Install the VPN on the device(s) you will use to search the databases.
- When you are ready to start your search, launch the VPN and connect using your FlashLine user name and password.
- While you are searching, leave the VPN running in the background.
- When you are finished searching the databases, you can disconnect from the VPN.
Why do you need to use the VPN? The VPN is used to verify that you're a legitimate Kent State user, and have permission to use Kent State's databases. The VPN also makes sure that you can send and receive data safely, even on public Wi-Fi networks.
